Our chosen charity partner for 2024 is the Marine Conservation Society. As one of the UK’s leading ocean protection charities, they work towards cleaner beaches, cleaner seas and habitat protection. Living near the coast plays a big part in the lives of many of our store teams and we wanted to learn more, raise awareness and do a few things to help…
Which is why on a very rainy Sunday in July we gathered at Alum Chine beach near Bournemouth to conduct a charity beach clean and litter survey in association with the MCS. The weather was not on our side, but our team of volunteers continued regardless. The MCS analyse results of litter surveys recorded nationwide to learn about the nature of our coastal litter, problem materials (plastic of course), so they can react and campaign accordingly. It was pretty interesting to reflect on the materials picked up and it’s opened our eyes to this issue.
There are things we can all do to help prevent injury and death of marine wildlife, damage to their natural environment & also enhance our enjoyment of beaches and seas, starting with ensuring we all take our rubbish home with us and off the beaches!
